## Why the US Government Isn’t the Savior Intel Needs
While government support, like the CHIPS Act, is a vital lifeline for reshoring semiconductor manufacturing and ensuring national security, it’s not the ultimate savior Intel needs for its long-term resurgence.
Government intervention can provide crucial capital, infrastructure, and a more level playing field against state-backed competitors. However, it cannot:
1. **Dictate Innovation:** Technological leadership is born from relentless R&D, daring design choices, and agile execution – not legislative mandate.
2. **Fix Internal Issues:** Intel’s recent struggles often stem from internal missteps in manufacturing process (node delays), product architecture, and market strategy. These require internal reforms, not external subsidies.
3. **Guarantee Market Share:** Success in a fiercely competitive global market depends on delivering superior, cost-effective products that customers choose. Government can’t force consumer preference or design wins.
4. **Keep Pace with Industry:** The tech industry moves at breakneck speed. Government processes, by nature, are slower and less adaptable to rapid market shifts.
The government can be an indispensable partner and a critical enabler. But Intel’s true salvation lies in its own capacity for innovation, execution, and re-establishing a clear technological advantage that the market, not just the state, rewards.
