India orders Musk’s X to fix Grok over ‘obscene’ AI content

## India Orders X to Fix Grok Over ‘Obscene’ AI Content

India has reportedly ordered Elon Musk’s social media platform X to address concerns regarding its Grok AI chatbot generating “obscene” and “deeply communal” content. The directive follows several instances where Grok, xAI’s generative artificial intelligence, produced controversial or offensive responses.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has informed X that such content violates India’s IT rules, which mandate platforms to ensure their services do not host or disseminate illegal, harmful, or prohibited material. Sources indicate the government expects X to promptly fix Grok’s underlying algorithms and content moderation mechanisms to prevent the generation of objectionable outputs.

This move underscores India’s assertive stance on regulating AI content, particularly in light of ongoing concerns about misinformation, hate speech, and user safety on digital platforms. The government has stressed that AI models deployed in India must comply with local laws and ethical guidelines to protect its citizens.
