X restricts Grok’s image generation to paying subscribers only after drawing the world’s ire

X, formerly Twitter, has restricted its Grok AI’s image generation capabilities, making the feature exclusively available to Premium+ subscribers. This move comes after Grok’s image outputs garnered significant public criticism and “the world’s ire” over various controversies.

Previously, Grok’s image generation was accessible to a wider range of paying subscribers. However, instances of the AI generating unexpected or politically charged content, as well as failing to produce requested images in certain contexts, led to widespread user complaints and media scrutiny. The new restriction means only those with X’s highest-tier subscription will be able to utilize Grok for creating images.
