**Chicago Tribune Files Suit Against AI Firm Perplexity Over Content Use**

Chicago, IL – The Chicago Tribune has filed a lawsuit against artificial intelligence startup Perplexity AI, alleging copyright infringement and the unauthorized use of its journalistic content to train and generate answers without proper attribution or compensation.

The complaint, filed in federal court, accuses Perplexity of “systematic and widespread” scraping of the Tribune’s articles, photographs, and other intellectual property. The Tribune argues that Perplexity’s AI-powered search engine directly reproduces significant portions of its copyrighted material in response to user queries, often presenting it as original output without licensing agreements.

Perplexity, known for its “answer engine” that summarizes information from various sources, has faced similar accusations from other publishers and media organizations globally. The lawsuit highlights a growing tension between content creators and AI companies over the ethics and legality of using published works to fuel AI models and services.

The Tribune is seeking damages and an injunction to prevent Perplexity from continuing to use its copyrighted material without permission. The case is expected to be closely watched by the media industry as it navigates the evolving landscape of AI and intellectual property rights.
